Is Everything Confidential?

Yes, everything is absolutely confidential. Your employer, for example, will not be able to know that you are receiving services at our Center. If privacy is a concern, Seoul Counseling Center is a safe place to come.

Do You Accept International Insurance (Including TRICARE)?

Yes, we accept the following International Insurances and offer Direct Billing with them whenever possible for your convenience—which means no billing paperwork for you! The insurance plans below typically cover 90 of our session fee. There are some rare exceptions to this, so if you provide us with your Insurance Card details, our trained Support Staff can contact your insurance company for you to determine the specifics of your insurance policy coverage details. We are also an approved, in-network TRICARE-provider and we serve Active Duty Tricare Family Members (including spouses and children) at our Pyeongtaek office. Pre-authorization from your PCM is not needed for Active Duty Family Members, as seen here. You can schedule with us directly and start seeing one of our Therapists or Psychologists immediately. Direct Billing available. TRICARE Prime: 100% coverage, $0 copay; TRICARE Select: $22-$30 copay. Korean Health Insurance does not cover services at our center; if costs are a concern, contact us to discuss your options at any time.

What Languages Are Available?

English, Korean, Hebrew, and Spanish All of our therapists are fluent in English, and several of them are bilingual in English and Korean. Every therapist trained in either the US or Canada, and they have a deep understanding of both Western and Korean cultures.

How Much Do Sessions Cost?

Our rates differ depending on the service you are seeking and the provider you see. Fees below are per one-hour session. Please inquire for further details or click the button below to go to our fees page.

How Long Does Counseling Last?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place. That said, it is common for our clients to attend weekly sessions for 3 to 6 months. Some people choose to meet less than that (just a few times), while others continue with us long-term to continue to work on strengthening other areas of your life, mental health, and wellbeing.

How Many Sessions Do I Have To Commit To?

There is no set number of sessions you have to commit to. You have full control over how often you meet with us.

What Will I Learn In Therapy? How Does It Work?

Because each person has different issues and goals for mental health counseling, counseling will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our approach to meet your specific needs. That said, the following are common areas addressed in therapy: Identify positive and negative patterns in your thinking, life, and behaviors; Learn to change relationship patterns and interaction styles; Build new communication skills; Improve on appropriate assertiveness skills; Deepen your emotional understanding and connection with yourself and others; Clarify your goals; Build your confidence and plan for the future; Strengthen your emotion regulation skills; Learning relaxation strategies; and Reduce anxieties and fears

Do You Prescribe Medication And Is It Effective?

We are not Psychiatric Medical providers, and so we do not prescribe medication in any form at Seoul Counseling Center. If needed, we can refer you to English-speaking Psychiatrists in Korea. Based on the research in the field, medication can be effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy and counseling. However, the research shows that medication alone often does not solve all issues. Counseling is designed to explore more than just symptoms, including the root of the issue, dynamics between relationships, and teach you strategies to more easily attain your mental health goals. Based on the research, medication in conjunction with regular counseling and therapy can also be highly effective. If you want to learn more about medications and whether they may be best for your needs, we recommend you to seek consultation directly from a Medical Psychiatrist.

Can I Choose My Therapist?

Absolutely. And we encourage you to do so. Therapist-fit is extremely important. Please read the backgrounds of our therapist team, and let us know if there is anyone you want to meet with.

Do You Offer Online Counseling?

Yes, we offer video-conferencing with your therapist from the comfort of your home via our secure Zoom program. While there are other online services for therapy, our therapists are experienced and trained in understanding the specific challenges of living and working in Korea.

Is It Best To Conduct The Evaluation In-Person?

It depends on the areas being evaluated and age. For example, for children under the age of 6 and being evaluated for ADHD, the evaluation must be conducted in-person. If the evaluation is done online and it takes more than 3 hours, it is recommended to have the evaluation done in two separate days. It is also possible to have some tests done in-person and the rest online.

How Much Time (Hours/Days) Will Be Needed For The Evaluation?

It would take from 2 hours to 6 hours. It depends on the areas being evaluated. It may also take longer if further tests are needed.
