General Information

    • Below is a list of English-speaking psychiatrists’ offices in South Korea. We hope this information would be helpful for you to get in touch with a local physician who can assist you with medication prescription or a diagnostic evaluation.
    • Please note that tertiary hospitals may require a referral (진료의뢰서) from your primary physician in order for your services to be covered by Korean National Health Insurance. If you have an international insurance policy, you may be able to schedule with the directly without a referral. Please contact the clinic for more information.
    • The major difference between the provider types is:
      • Psychiatrists (M.D.) can prescribe psychiatric medication.
      • Psychologists, Therapists, and Counselors can provide mental health counseling services.
    • If you are looking for English-speaking Psychologists or Counselors, please reach out to us here.
    • **Disclaimer. Please note that the options provided here are not comprehensive and should be utilized as one of the available resources. You are encouraged to seek service providers that align closely with your requirements. The Seoul Counseling Center does not have any affiliations with the providers mentioned below and cannot vouch for their quality or suitability for your specific needs. We strongly recommend conducting your own research to determine the best choice for your situation.

Questions to ask the Psychiatrist

    • What are some expected side-effects of the medication?
    • How frequently should I schedule my check-up appointments for any needed dosage adjustments, and/or change of medication type?
    • What are the different types of medications that can be used to treat my disorder? What are the pros and cons of each medication?
    • Are any medications associated with a known risk for dependency that one should be aware of?
    • **Note. You should not feel pressured to receive both medication and counseling from the Psychiatrist, especially if you are already receiving counseling services at a clinic elsewhere. If you are offered counseling services from your Psychiatrist in addition to medication, it is your choice on what to do. In most cases, you should be able to receive only medication from your Psychiatrist without also having to receive counseling from the Psychiatrist’s office (especially if you are already seeing a counselor elsewhere).
