Therapy Approach

My main approach to counseling and art therapy is rooted in prioritizing clients’ safety and self-agency and tailoring therapy to the unique interests, desires, and needs of each person. I encourage using creativity as a resource for facilitating personally meaningful changes. I integrate various therapeutic approaches, mainly drawing from a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) approach, family therapy, and a Solution-Focused Therapy approach, all grounded in Client-Centered Therapy principles.

In collaboration with the client, I guide them through the counseling phases step-by-step. This journey encompasses ensuring safety and stability through information-sharing, skill-building, processing adverse life experiences and current challenges, and ultimately integrating acquired skills and insights into planning for a personally meaningful and satisfying life beyond therapy. Throughout this process, I value the client’s expertise on their lived experience equally as my expertise as a therapist, fostering a collaborative working relationship.

Furthermore, I encourage integrating creative arts with counseling to promote the client’s creative expression. I view creativity as an inherent resource in everyone, capable of uncovering noble solutions and enriching well-being and competence. Recognizing that words alone may be limited to expressing and communicating rich life experiences and complex emotions, I utilize art and music as valuable tools to guide clients in self-exploration, trauma processing, relaxation, and developing positive relationships with themselves and their loved ones.
