Now pursuing a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapy Program at Lesley University, Yuri aims to solidify her expertise in the field.

Throughout her career, Yuri has been deeply involved in her community. From working as an art therapy intern at Evanston Elementary School and Sarah’s Circles homeless shelter to providing valuable services at the KANWIN domestic violence organization, she has positively impacted many lives. Her work at the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and Playful Healing Center showcased her dedication to healing and personal growth as a mental health professional.

Yuri’s extensive experience allows her to address a wide range of mental health challenges for diverse populations, such as, PTSD, OCD, depression and anxiety, eating disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorder, spanning from young children to seniors. She adeptly tailors her art therapy and counseling services to meet the unique needs of each individual. Therapy Approach

In my therapeutic practice, I integrate trauma-informed care and evidence-based techniques, drawing from various theories to provide comprehensive support to my clients. My approach centers around fostering positive behavioral changes, managing emotions effectively, enhancing cognitive flexibility, and promoting self-acceptance through a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also incorporate art therapy (AT) into my practice, embracing an integrated arts approach that combines visual arts such as drawing, painting, and mixed media with creative dance/movement, drama, and singing. This diverse range of artistic expressions allows my clients to explore and process their emotions and experiences.

The core focus of my work as a therapist is to utilize the creative process as a powerful tool for healing and achieving overall wellness. Throughout our therapeutic journey together, I actively encourage clients to utilize art materials to delve into their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and expanding their capacity for wellness. Together, we create a safe and supportive space that embraces the past, present, and future, providing an empathic and culturally competent environment for growth and healing.

Ultimately, my goal is to be a facilitator and a partner in my client’s healing journey, guiding them toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and interpersonal effectiveness. By combining evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, and the transformative power of art, I strive to empower my clients to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.
