Susan holds a Master of Art in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliance Graduate School of Counseling and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the state of New York in the United States. She was born in England but has also lived in Spain, Korea, as well as the US. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked as an Interior Designer with a Master’s degree from Pratt Institute. Additionally, she is a graduate of Alliance Theological Seminary and is equipped for Christian counseling as well. Susan has over 9 years of extensive clinical experience.

Biography

Susan has been trained in various settings including mental health outpatient treatment, adolescent behavioral group therapy, domestic violence victim service, ministry, and private practice settings. Before moving to Korea, she worked for several years at Redeemer Counseling Services in Manhattan, NY.  Susan counsels individual and couples on various areas including: Anxiety / Communication / emotional Intimacy / Dependency / Grief & Loss /  Phase of Life Problems / Vocational Stress / Childhood Trauma / Family Conflict / Dating and Premarital.

Therapy Approach

My approach to therapy has been shaped primarily by the integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) as well as other evidence-based psychotherapy models such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy, and Restoration Therapy. Among various techniques, I believe that the experiential aspect of therapy is important to lasting change. I trust my clients are the experts of their life stories and have valuable qualities that hold the path to permanent healing. I help clients access those qualities that naturally surface once the disconnected internal world becomes harmonized. I am also trained in Gottman Therapy Level 1 and Certified in Prepare and Enrich for couples.
No matter where the therapy process is I believe transparency is key to creating trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship. My hope is to journey with my clients providing effective tools and deeper insight into experiencing their valuable inner qualities.
