Biography

Ivy was born in raised in Alberta, Canada, where she grew up playing competitive soccer. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Alberta. During her undergraduate studies, Ivy volunteered extensively with the Canada Mental Health Association Distress Line providing supportive listening and violence/mental health risk assessments for callers. She also mentored high school students from diverse backgrounds through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. Following graduation, Ivy has been working in Korea as an English teacher for the past five years teaching children, teens, and adults in private and government-based programs, and providing assistance to other teachers adapting to their work and life in Korea.

Together, these experiences strengthened Ivy’s abilities to work with clients from diverse backgrounds at different stages in their lives, and to assist them in reaching their goals.

Therapy Approach

My approach is focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic theories, such as Object Relations theory. I find it helpful to incorporate relevanat theories and techniques of therapy as they fit the client’s needs on a case-by-case basis. My goal is to work with my clients to get to know their story, and to co-construct a way to optimize therapy for them the best that I can. The client knows themself the best, so, I want to support them and give them a place where they feel heard.

I believe that Object Relations helps me look into the client’s past and their relationships, to gain a better understanding of how they got to where they are now. It is also important to gain insights into the underlying patterns in their life. CBT is more focused on the here-and-now, and how we can realistically get to the place that they want to be, and if possible, taking the necessary steps to move past that point.
